JOHN RUSSELL HEDGES
1892 - 1918

Known as "Jack", John Russell Hedges was the son of
Mrs. Elizabeth Hedges of 7 Parsonage Place, Tring, Hertfordshire.
In World War One he served as Private Number 201230 in the 1st/5th Battalion
Bedfordshire Regiment and was killed in Palestine
on Saturday, 16th November 1918, aged 26 years.
He is commemorated (Panel Number 312) at the Beirut War Cemetery in the Lebanese Republic.
This Cemetery is located approximately 2-3 kilometres from the centre of Beirut
in the El Horj district on Rue Jalloul, which runs west of
Avenue de Novembre which is next to a park known as the Forest of Pines.

Portrait was painted by Madeline Green and hangs in the family home together with his remembrance plaque which was sent to families who had lost their loved ones "for freedom and honour".
